First off, many apologies to all of you that tuned in Monday night to watch our performance from Smith’s Olde Bar. Apparrantly there were some technical issues with Synclive.com. We are hoping they will be able to retrieve the footage and we will be able to share the show with you!
We arrived at Smith’s right on time at 5pm! Everything was going great. No traffice in Atlanta & Garmin got us right to the load in door without taking us on some scenic tour of Atlanta. All is great until it’s time to unlock the trailer and load in all of our gear. Where’s the key to trailer one ask…..hmmm I don’t know. Oh it must be in the van. No not there either. I won’t mention who lost the key, but I’ll say that Paul did a great job finding us a bolt cutter to cut the lock! So with that little set back we unloaded and everything was fine!
Okay so the show was great and lots of people came and all that is good. But we need to hit the road to go home because Jake has to leave Auburn at 8am to head back to B’Ham. But before we can leave ATL, we must first drop David off at his place in ATL. No problem, it’s only 5 min from here! However, this is only David’s second night at his new place and he can’t remember where he lives!!! Eventually we find it and we (Rob, Jen & Jake) are ready to make the trek back to Auburn. Paul was catching a ride back with friends.
So we get on I-85 are we are cruising at 70 miles making good time, little traffic. Jake & Jen are both asleep. Around 1am central time we are coming up on Newnan, GA when I notice a huge fireball about a mile or so in front of me and traffic is coming to a stand still. Emergency vehicles are coming from everywhere. Whatever it was, it was engulfed in flames. In all the time we have spent on the highway, I’ve never seen anything like it. So we figured that the emergency crews would get this under control and would find a way to let the cars get around.
Not the case….5AM, we are still sitting in a dark car on a dark highway wondering if we will ever get through. There was nowhere to go, no exit’s you could get too. Eventually all the emergency lights dissapeared and before you knew it, traffic started moving. Most traffic that is, some people fell asleep in their cars, some cars ran out of gas. Unbelievable. By the time we arrived to the scene all you could see was a bunch of Diesel fuil on the highway.
So we got back to Auburn at about 6:30 am. I had to go pick up the kids at 7:30 to take them to daycare. Jen had to open the salon at 9:30. Good times on no sleep! And Jake was going to nap a couple hours before driving back to B’Ham.
oh the life of a rock star….
